The Seven Secrets of CEREC’s Success

  • Conservative - It involves the least amount of drilling and saves the most amount of your own natural tooth – it protects and preserves your tooth’s integrity.
  • Confidence - Because it is bonded in place, it can strengthen and reinforce your tooth to give you the confidence to eat what you want.
  • Cosmetic - CERECs are colour matched and characterised to give you a beautiful, natural looking tooth.
  • Cost Effective - The CAD/CAM technology used ensures a superior fit and accuracy which means it fits better and lasts longer.
  • Convenience – One visit is all it takes, without the need for impressions, temporary crowns or a second visit a couple of weeks later.
  • Compatible – Metal free, inert, biocompatible material that closely matches your own natural tooth structure.
  • Comfortable – When you eat hot and cold food and drinks, the CEREC and your tooth expand and contract in the same way (unlike metal) so your tooth does not hurt.

The seven steps of the CEREC process

Cerec Step 1 Step 1 - When a tooth is heavily filled, cracked, broken or decayed, then you and your dentist may choose the benefits of CEREC. The tooth is numbed completely, so that you can relax, confident in the knowledge that the procedure is totally comfortable (click here to read about the magic WAND). Only the bad stuff is removed, leaving the most amount of your own natural tooth.
Carec Step 2 Step 2 - The prepared tooth is “photographed” using a digital acquisition unit. This is much quicker and more convenient than having moulds or impressions taken.
Carec Step 3 Step 3 - The image of the tooth appears on the computer screen. Using CAD/CAM technology, the CEREC is designed to fit perfectly, look fantastic and function comfortably. While your dentist is doing this bit, you can relax with a coffee or read a magazine. However, most people are fascinated by the process and really take an interest. Feel free to ask as many questions as you want to.
Carec Step 4 Step 4 - A colour matched ceramic block is chosen and placed in the milling machine. The computer then directs the diamond coated instruments on robot arms to reproduce the design to within microns of absolute perfection.
Carec Step 5 Step 5 - The CEREC is then characterised and glazed to look natural and feel nice and smooth to your tongue.
Carec Step 6 Step 6 - The glaze is then hardened in a small kiln that heats up to 960oC.
Carec Step 7 Step 7 - We then allow it to cool (!) and the CEREC is bonded in place to strengthen and reinforce your tooth, giving you the confidence to eat what you like.
